“The fourth light of Advent is the light of humankind, The light of love, the light of thought, to give and understand.”
We have made it. Today is the Winter Solstice. The shortest day and the longest night. It feels momentous to me, as I know that this is a tipping point. It’s where the earth holds its breath before slowly, imperceptibly, tilting back towards the sun. The days get longer, brighter and the buzz of life is soon to return.

This final week of Advent is for the Human Kingdom. It is about connection, community, and the lights we can light for one another.
It has been a strange, quiet end to the year for me. I’ve had multiple bereavements, been navigating illness, diagnosis, and the vulnerability that comes with all of it has been a challenge. I’m so ready to usher in 2026, and to celebrate the return of the light.

Thank you for your support, patience, your kindness, and for waiting for me while I overwintered. I hope this brings a little bit of the Lancashire wild into your homes for 2026.
As the sun stands still today, I’m asking myself: What am I ready to leave in the dark, and what do I want to carry forward into the light? It will be a quiet moment and a candle will do as I think things through.
Thank you for being part of my light this year. Wishing you a gentle Yule surrounded by people you love.
